Too Long From The War

Too long from the war
Its bitter trials.
Filling all those days
With a solemn end.
Gray fields quieting
Dying stars above.

Songs begin anew:
Lights of younger suns
Glister in their rise.
“Once more & once more!”
They cry in laughter:
“Once more & once more!

“What seasons ahead,
To strive through Winter
Once more & once more!”
Great banners are spread
Ere sorrow enters
…too long from the war.
